You're a world renowned chef, owner of LA's Sona restaurant and host of Fine Living's Shopping with Chefs Show. How do you have time for charitable work with the Surfrider Foundation?

How can you not have time? It's all about balance. You gotta give back and be passionate about making a difference. This is what I'm passionate about.

You've worked with some of the most famous names in the food world: Charlie Trotter, Joachim Splichal and Daniel Bouloud - What has each of them taught you?

Each one has taught me different things, but the underlying message from all of these great chefs was generosity.

What is the most unforgettable dish you've ever tried?

Fugu (blowfish) sperm sac in Tokyo.

What would your advice be to someone who wanted to get involved with charity work, but didn't know how to start?

Starting with what you're passionate about, you should start with what you are drawn to. You should research and find the one you're most comfortable with, then dive in! Anything can make a difference, from opening a letter, to making a phone call.
